Sisterhood

RTPV Sisterhood is an integral part of the Reform Temple of Putnam Valley. It provides a network of support for the congregation and for its members. The temple experience is enhanced multifold through their efforts; it would be impossible to imagine temple life without them.

Sisterhood provides an organization where all can work together to make Judaism meaningful, dynamic, and vital for every member and their families. Our structure gives each member an opportunity to participate in our projects. Sisterhood contacts have often become the basis for lasting friendships.

Sisterhood helps the Reform Temple of Putnam Valley by sponsoring many temple activities and fundraising projects such as:

  • Attic/Tag sale where proceeds have purchased new temple prayer books, carpeting, stove and have helped maintained the physical structure of the building.
  • High Holiday Break the Fast
  • Passover Model Seder
  • Pool Party

The partnership between the Sisterhood of Reform Temple of Putnam Valley and the Women of Reform Judaism (WRJ) was launched at a special Sisterhood Shabbat Service on January 6, 2023.

We were inspired by guest speaker Marilyn Shebshaievetz, interim Vice President of the WRJ Northeast District, and by remarks given by Nina Edwards. You can read Nina’s speech here.

Special thanks to Chazzanit Annice Benamy, Sisterhood President Nicole M. Berglas and the following newly-elected officers for creating a meaningful service: Nina Edwards and Marge Kaplan, Co-Vice Presidents, Roni Rodman, Treasurer, Pam Zicca and Cole Caulfield, Co-Secretaries. Thank you to Rabbi Andrew Sklarz and temple president Robin Bass, for their support of this inaugural service. Stay tuned for plans for many exciting activities.
